Medical teams mobilized for providing health checkup to climbers

Kathmandu, Oct 7: The Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA) has dispatched a team of doctors to the mountain areas.

HRA stated that a team of doctors has been deployed to provide information about health issues like altitude sickness, diarrhea, and fever that may occur during trekking and mountaineering in the Himalayan region, as well as to offer treatment services if required.

The chief executive officer of the HRA, Govinda Basyal, shared that teams of local and foreign volunteer doctors and staff have been sent to health posts in Manang, and Pheriche, Solukhumbu. A team comprising Dr Robert James Edward Dixon from Australia and Dr Victoria Jane Robertson from the UK, along with supporting staff, has been deployed at Manang Health Post.

Similarly, a team including Dr Mary Abercrombie from the UK and Dr Matthew Alex McAlpine from Australia has been deployed at the Pheriche Health Post. Emergency health services will be available 24 hours a day at Manang and Pheriche Health Post.

HRA’s Chief Executive Officer Basyal said that coordination and support for running the health post was received from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Department of Tourism, the Department of Health Services, the Labor Department, the Department of Immigration, Nepal Medical Council, National Trust for Nature Conservation, Nisyang Rural Municipality of Manang, and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.

According to him, the service will be running until the end of November. During that time, a team of volunteer doctors and support staff will be operating in the Himalayan region. —
