Nepal defeats Oman ‘A’ in practice match for ICC World Cup League

Kathmandu, Oct 7: The Nepali national cricket team, preparing for the ICC World Cup League 2, won its practice match against Oman ‘A’ by two wickets on Wednesday.

In its first practice match played at the Oman Cricket Academy Turf-2, Oman ‘A’, initially posted a target of 161 runs for Nepal. However, the Nepali team decided to increase the challenge, as it was a practice match and revised the challenge for 240 runs. It successfully chased down this target of 240 runs in 48.2 overs at the loss of eight wickets.

Ishan Pandey was the top scorer for Nepal, contributing 72 runs. Similarly, Aasif Sheikh made 37 runs, Dev Khanal 34 and Gulsan Kumar Jha 30. Dipendra Singh Airee scored 19 runs. Earlier, Oman ‘A’ had lost the toss and was invited to bat first. It was bowled out for 160 runs in 39.5 overs.

Captain Hammad Mirza was the highest scorer for Oman ‘A’ with 54 runs, while Zikria Islam and Sanju Sajeev scored 35 and 34 runs, respectively. Towards bowling, Nepal’s Nandan Yadav took three wickets, while Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane claimed two wickets each.

Gulsan Kumar Jha, Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, and Shahab Alam took one wicket each. It may be noted that Nepal, Oman and Canada are facing each other in ODI series under the ICC World Cup League 2 in Oman this week. —
