Kathmandu, Oct 21: Engineer Kumar Lamichhane from Gorkha has set an example that with hard work and dedication, one can succeed in any profession.

He has been able to become a role model in society by earning a monthly income of Rs 1.5 million through cattle farming. He operates his cattle farm at Ramkot, Dandapauwa of Nagarjun Municipality–6, Kathmandu.

Lamichhane is a civil engineer from Khahare, Siranchok Rural Municipality-7, Gorkha district. He established Kshitij Integrated Agriculture Farm Pvt. Ltd. in May 2020 and has been pursuing this profession since then.

Lamichhane shared that he has been running a cow and buffalo farming enterprise by renting a total of six ropanis of land at a monthly rate of Rs 100 thousand. He started the cattle farming with an investment of Rs 100 million. Lamichhane, who initially started his business with 30 buffaloes, now has 200 cows and 50 buffaloes in his farm.

“After graduating as an engineer, I used to work in construction. For the past seven years, together with my life partner, engineer Sangita, I’ve been involved in the engineering profession as well as in cattle farming. Some people have found employment through this business, and the income is also quite good,” he says.

Currently, Engineer Lamichhane’s dairy farm produces 1,200 litres of milk daily. He informed that some of the milk produced at his farm has been sold and distributed to the Dairy Development Corporation (DDC), the Namuna Dairy, and other dairies in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to Lamichhane, currently the price of buffalo milk is Rs 170 per litre and cow milk is Rs 100 per litre. Machines are installed for milking both cows and buffaloes at the farm. His farm currently has 50 employees working directly and indirectly.

He mentioned that even though they earn Rs 4.5 to 5 million monthly from milk sales, after covering expenses, they manage to save Rs 1.5 million. Lamichhane said that most of the expenses go on fodder and hay for feeding the cows and buffaloes. —rss
