CPN UML’s parliamentary party meeting today

Kathmandu, June 2: CPN (UML)’s parliamentary party meeting is taking place this afternoon.

In the meeting to be held at 1.00 pm at Lhotse hall of the Federal Parliament building in New Baneswor, matters related to the budget presented in the parliament on May 29 and contemporary situation would be discussed, Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartaula informed.

The meeting to be presided over by party chair and parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli will make in-depth discussions and deliberations from various perspectives on the budget.

In this connection, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, and Vice Chair of the National Planning Commission Dr. Shivraj Adhikari will provide analytical information, it is shared.

Construction of dry port gains pace in Dodhara Chandani

Dodhara Chandani (Kanchanpur), June 2: Construction of dry port has gained momentum in Dodhara Chandani.

Executive Director of Nepal Intermodal Transport Development Committee, Ashish Gajurel informed that the dry port construction works are being undertaken in a desired pace.

As many as 1,000 trees have been so far cut down in Mayapuri community forest at Dodhara Chandani municipality-1, he shared.

“Preparations are being placed in a way proceed with the construction works by completing tree-felling this month, for which India has already selected a construction company”, he shared.

It may be noted that a memorandum of understanding as signed between the governments of Nepal and India on 1 June 2023, for the construction of the dry port with financial and technical assistance of the Indian government.

The Indian side has solicited bids for the construction of the port at a cost of INR 2.543 billion and has selected a construction company.

The construction will begin after the Nepali side vacates the port site and hands it over to the Indian side.

The Intermodal Transport Development Committee has indicated that infrastructure will be built on 42.36 hectares of land for the port, including two warehouse buildings, customs inspection building, quarantine building, immigration building, and security building.

Nepal has already brought into operation a six-lane access road to the dry port and a four-lane concrete bridge over the Mahakali River.

India is constructing the access road to the port from its side. With the construction of the dry port and the operation of the western border point, it is expected to open the avenues for the development of the Sudurpaschim (far-west) region. —  

Model headquarters construction begins six years after laying foundation stone

Triveni (Nawalparasi), June 2: Construction of model headquarters of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) has gained momentum six years after laying its foundation stone.

The foundation stone for the construction of the headquarters was placed in a way to build all government offices of the district in one stop on 20 April 2019.

An ambitious plan was put forward for the construction of the district headquarters in 187 bighas of land in Kawasoti Municipality-3. However, it did not progress for a long time even.

Recently, the construction works have gained momentum. Currently, two separate office buildings are being constructed through different contracts at the model headquarters site.

In the first phase, construction of an integrated building is underway, which will house the District Administration Office and two other offices. Now construction of additional buildings has started.

Chaudhary Construction is constructing the District Administration Office building and an integrated building at a cost of Rs. 365 million.

While the work is on progress to complete the construction by 5 January 2027, additional works have also begun at the district headquarters construction site at a total cost of Rs. 3.61 billion excluding VAT, informed Jhapat Bahadur Thapa, chief of the Urban Infrastructure and Building Construction Project in Chitwan.

The Samanantar-Buddha Himalayan JV was awarded the contracts for the construction of buildings including that of the court, office of the government attorney, meeting hall, three integrated buildings, barracks, guest house, district headquarters compound, embankment of the Kerunje River connected to the construction site, blacktopping of the main road of the district headquarters, and extension of water supply and electricity lines.

The construction works have gained pace accordingly, Thapa said. —    

Dhampus being connected to upgraded road network

Kaski, June 2: Dhampus, a touristic village in Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality-7 of Kaski district is to be connected to the blacktopped road network.

The work for upgrading the 13-km road from Hemja Ghattekhola to Dhampus via Khanigaun along the Mid-Hill Highway has begun. The Gandaki Province government has started the road up-gradation under the Rural Connectivity Improvement Project (RCIP) at a cost of Rs 301.9 million

RCIP Project Pokhara chief Laxmi Bhandari informed that a contract was signed with the contractor company on last March to complete the road construction within the next two years.

The company has currently begun upgrading the road from Khanigaun.

Machapuchhre-7 ward chair Baikunth Prasad Bhandari said that all 10 settlements in Dhampus will be benefitted from the road upgrade.

He mentioned that now the road has connected the border of touristic village, Lwang, in Machapuchhre-8, and it will be easier to reach to the municipality center and Pokhara market via Lwang and Khorakumukh with completion of construction of two kilometers road from Lwang. —  

NAC operates flight service from Tarigaun airport

Tulsipur, June 2: The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) has started operating flight service from the Tarigaun Airport in Tulsipur-12.

NAC Tulsipur section chief, Bal Bahadur Sunar informed that the the corporation has been operating flight service from the Tarigaun Airport five days a week based on the demand of passengers.

According to him, flights are being operated on five other days in the week except Wednesday and Saturday.

Due to lack of regular air service at Taringaun, passengers had to go to Nepalgunj or Bhairahawa.

Also, the runway of the airport is small, so large aircraft have not been able to land.

Currently, only a 19-seat aircraft can land at the airport. The runway of the airport is now 750 meters long. There have been repeated calls to extend the runway.

This airport was built in 2011 BS. —
