Kathmandu: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has said that empowering youth leadership to make youth disciplined by the Nepal Scout was a positive initiative of the organization.
At a programme here today organized on 74th Foundation Day of Nepal Scouts, the Vice President said Scout has played impressive roles to make children, adolescents and youths righteous, self-dependent and socialite through its continuous efforts.
He viewed that Scout has led the youths to become moral, intellect and responsible leaders through its social education.
The Vice President also recalled the contributions made by the youth scout volunteers in various times of need across the country.
The campaign of scout for social transformation is crucial which are being done by prioritizing the issues of drug abuse control, health awareness and disaster management, among others.
Vice President Yadav also appreciated the scout members for highlighting Nepal’s identity at national and international levels through different programmes.

Budget bolsters national economy: Finance Minister
Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has expressed belief that the budget for the fiscal year, 2082/83 will help bolster national economy.
The Finance Minister said it while responding to the queries raised during the general discussion on annual estimates of revenue and spending during the meeting of the National Assembly. Budget not only dreams but dreams to realize the ambition, he argued.
He further asserted that the budget would set an example in terms of implementation. “Budget is brought in a way it will be actionable for its size, estimates and project proposals. I’ve made resolution for effective budget” Paudel said, adding that government has aimed at achieving 6 percent economic growth and contain inflation at 5.5 percent by the end of the coming fiscal year.
According to the Finance Minister, the budget would establish a firm foundation for strengthening national economy. The past projects would also be realized through the budget, he reminded.

National U-16 Cricket Team announced
Kathmandu: The national cricket team has been announced today for the ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup Cricket Tournament to be held in Malaysia.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 14-member team led by Bipin Prasad Sharma for the tournament to be held in Malaysia from June 22 to July 5.
The Nepali team including captain Sharma and Vice-captain Suryashu Koirala comprises Shivansh Bajgain, Raunak Srivastava, Parimarjan Yadav, Abhay Yadav, Sachin Bhatta, Sugam Budhathoki, Suyog Bhattarai, Sushil Rawal, Shubham Khanal, Prasidha Jaishi, Joy Thapa and Roshan Shahi.
Ten different teams, including Nepal, are participating in the tournament. Nepal has been placed in Group ‘A’ along with Singapore, Indonesia, Bhutan and Japan. Group ‘B’ includes hosts Malaysia, Thailand, the Maldives, Hong Kong and Myanmar.
Nepal will play its opening match against Singapore on June 22.

NA sends Customs Bill for clause-wise discussion
Kathmandu: The meeting of the National Assembly on Thursday unanimously endorsed the proposal seeking transfer of the Customs Bill, 2080 to the legislation committee for clause-wise discussion.
The proposal was presented by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel. Earlier, Chairperson of Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee, Kamala Panta, presented the study report on Nepal’s efforts to graduate to developing country from the LDC status, 2081.
The meeting today also passed a condolence motion on the demise of constituent assembly member Birendra Juharchan and former member of the House of Representatives, Dhundiraj Shastri.
Chairman of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal, had presented the condolence motion, which was passed unanimously by the meeting. The NA meeting paid tributes to the departed ones and extended condolences to the bereaved family members.
The next meeting of NA will be held on coming Monday. Similarly, meeting today of the House of Representatives passed a condolence resolution on the death of former minister and socialist thinker Dhundiraj Shastri. The resolution presented by Speaker Devraj Ghimire was unanimously passed.
Members of the House of Representatives observed a minute’s silence to pay their tributes to the late Shastri and extended deep condolences to bereaved family members.
The House of Representatives will meet again tomorrow.

Pakistan for expansion of parliamentary relations with Nepal, says Ambassador Hashmi
Kathmandu: Ambassador of Pakistan to Nepal Abrar H. Hashmi has reiterated Pakistan’s desire to further expand relations between the Parliaments of Pakistan and Nepal and further bilateral cooperation in trade, tourism, education, health, culture, climate resilience, P2P and regional peace between the two countries.
During an interaction with Pakistan-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group today, Ambassador Hashmi appreciated the longstanding and cordial relations between Pakistan and Nepal, rooted in shared cultural heritage, mutual respect, and regional affinity, according to a Press Release issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu.
The Ambassador also briefed the Group on the latest developments in Pakistan’s economy and regional situation, emphasizing Pakistan’s vision for a peaceful and prosperous South Asia. He welcomed the interest of the Nepali Parliament in fostering parliamentary diplomacy and institutional linkages.
Members of the Pakistan-Nepal Parliamentary Friendship Group expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s consistent support to Nepal and expressed satisfaction over relations free of irritants and underscored the importance of parliamentary exchanges in deepening mutual understanding. They also emphasized exploring new avenues of collaboration, particularly economic, cultural, youth, women, marginalized groups, technical support and capacity-building.
The interaction was attended by honourable members of the Friendship Group, diplomats of Pakistan Embassy and representatives of Nepal-Pakistan Friendship and Cultural Association.
On the occasion, both sides resolved to continue working together regularly for the good of two countries, inter alia, by building stronger institutional linkages, open dialogue and enhance multifaceted relations further strengthening bonds of friendship between the two countries and the people.

Landslides disrupt Araniko Highway
Chautara (Sindhupalchowk): Landslides in three different places at Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchowk district have obstructed vehicular movement along the Araniko Highway.
Police Inspector Jagat Bahadur Rai said that vehicular movement was fully obstructed after the landslides at Kodari, Larcha and Koplang. Work is underway to clear the obstructions.
Likewise, the movement of goods-laden containers along the Tatopani check point is also suspended after the road collapse.
Similarly, three houses suffered damage after the landslide triggered by torrential rainfall occurred at Liping bazaar in Bhotekoshi-2.
Chief District Officer Kiran Thapa said the houses of locals Padam Shrestha, Phulmaya Tamang and Sunita Shrestha were damaged due to the landslides.

After observing the photo exhibition on the theme ‘Mountain Tourism: Our Pride, Our Identity’ organized by the RSS on the occasion of the 18th Republic Day at its central office, Bhadrakali today, he said that Nepal is naturally beautiful and urged people to visit these beautiful tourist destinations.
The exhibition, which began on June 25, features 96 photos related to various mountain ranges, mountain life and major tourist destinations spread from east to west of Nepal.

9th China-South Asia exhibition kicks off in Kunming
Yunnan: The 9th China-South Asia exhibition kicked off in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province in China on Thursday.
The businesspersons from over 60 countries including the ones from south and south-east Asia have attended the exhibition organized jointly by the Commerce Ministry of China and Yunnan Province. The fair is organized in a bid to promote and expand cooperation in the sector of trade, science and technology, energy, education, health and culture.
There are 17 pavilions of some 120 Nepali businesspersons. The Nepali businesspersons have kept handicraft items, Buddha idols, tea and coffee, among others.
The event kicked off under the slogan of ‘solidarity and coordination for common development.
In the inaugural session, CCP standing committee member, Wing Ming, Governor of Yunnan Province, Wang Yugo, and other speakers underlined the need of cooperation among the people in south and south-east Asia for peace and prosperity.
On the occasion, Nepali Ambassador to China, Krishna Prasad Oli, also said the south and south-east Asia which is rich in natural and human resources, could be further developed through collaboration and cooperation in the sectors of environment conservation, infrastructure, and economic reforms.
He made aware the participants that Nepal had drawn the world’s attention by organizing the Sagarmatha Sambaad. “Nepal-China relations are historic and intimate, which would be further strengthened through special programmes on the occasion of the 70 years of diplomatic ties,” Oli added.
Pashmina entrepreneur of Thamel, Kathmandu, Janak Raj Pande, shared the number of Nepali stalls was raised by 40 compared to the last year. Some businesspersons were still deprived of a place due to time shortage and delayed transport of goods for display.

T2o Tri-series: 175 for Nepal to win against the Dutch
Kathmandu: Nepal has restricted the Netherlands to 174 runs in the stipulated 20 overs in the match currently underway between the two sides, as part of the T20 Tri-series being held in Scotland.
In the first innings that just concluded at Glasgow, the Dutch side scored 174 runs at the loss of 7 wickets. The Dutch total was largely founded on the blistering knock of 86 runs in 53 balls by opener Micheal Levitt. Roelof Van der Merwe was the second highest contributor to the Dutch total with 36 runs (n.0.) in 21 balls. Saqib Julikar and Aryan Dutta scored 14 and 17 runs respectively.
For the bowling side, Karan KC took 2 wickets giving away 40 runs in 4 overs, while Lalit Rajbansi, Dipendra Singh Airee, Rupesh Singh and Sandeep Lamichanne took 1 wicket each.
In the first match held under the series between the two sides, the Netherlands got better of Nepal in the third Super Over, after the regulation time and two Super Overs ended in a tie.
Nepal currently stands third in the points table with only 2 points following one win against Scotland, while the Netherlands leads with 4 points and host Scotland have 2 points, standing in second position with a better run rate.

Nepal-Bangladesh Tourism Meet concludes with hope to receive more Bangladeshi visitors
Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka organized the Nepal-Bangladesh Tourism Meet in collaboration with the Nepal Tourism Board under the theme 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘕𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘭: 𝘍𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘉𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘴. The event was held in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on Wednesday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari emphasized the crucial role tourism and people-to-people connections play in Nepal-Bangladesh relations and called for greater efforts to connect the heights of the Himalayas with the depths of the Bay of Bengal.
Sharing the efforts of Nepal government to improve tourism infrastructures, Ambassador Bhandari appreciated the important contributions of travel and tour entrepreneurs in further positioning Nepal as a preferred tourist destination.
Likewise, Officiating Director of Tourism Marketing and Promotion Department at the Nepal Tourism Board Rohini Prasad Khanal urged the participating travel agents and tour operators from Bangladesh to strengthen efforts towards building more robust tourism linkages between the two countries.
On the occasion, Khanal made a presentation on Nepal’s tourism products and potential and expressed optimism about an increased flow of Bangladeshi tourists in Nepal.
Similarly, Mt Everest summiteer Babar Ali shared brief remarks about his experiences in Nepal during his successful summit to the world’s tallest peak in 2024 and his recent ascent to Mt Annapurna, the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka stated.
The Presidents of Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh and Tour Operators Association of Bangladesh of Chattogram also spoke at the event highlighting the strong tourism cooperation and growing business ties between Nepal and Bangladesh, according to the Embassy.
Nepali students studying in Chattogram showcased Nepali folk cultural performances.

Govt for linking journalists with SSF: Minister Gurung
Gandaki: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said government would take initiative for linking journalists to contribution-based social security fund (SSF).
During a dialogue on journalists’ affiliation with SSF organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists in collaboration with SSF here Thursday, Minister Gurung informed that the SSF scheme would be gradually branched out to the subordinates of ministry and media sectors. “Big media houses are joining SSF scheme, even the employees in all media houses will be brought under this scheme,” the Minister said, reminding that even the policy and programmes of the government had mentioned it well. Positive understanding and initiatives are required for it.
It is beneficial both for the employers and employees for the workers’ access of financial security and quality health as well, according to the government spokesperson.
A bill on mass communication was being drafted. It will manage various issues of media, the minister shared. “The bill incorporates the issues including mass media authority and training academy. Even the Media Council Bill is in the process of becoming an act, while government will introduce a law to manage social networking sites,” Gurung explained.

Writ filed to remove news dismissed
Kathmandu: The Kathmandu District Court has dismissed a writ petition filed requesting for an order to remove news report published in the media.
A single bench of Judge Shyam Bihari Maurya today dismissed the writ petition filed by Securities and Exchange Board of Nepal Chair Santosh Narayan Shrestha, said the court’s information officer Deepak Kumar Shrestha. The writ was filed in the court demanding the removal of news published on ‘Nepalkhabar.com’ and ‘Bizmandu.com’.
Court information officer Shrestha said that although the court had earlier issued an interim order to remove news published about Board Chair Shrestha, the news does not have to be removed as the writ has been dismissed in today’s order.
