Bhaktapur, Sept 6: The Sahid Dharmabhakta National Organ Transplant Centre, Bhaktapur, has successfully transplanted kidney on Laxman Kishor Chaudhary, the former minister of Sudurpaschim Province, for the third time.
Organizing a news conference here Saturday, Centre’s Executive Director Dr Pukar Chandra Shrestha said that kidney transplant on an individual for this third time is the first case in Nepal.
Dr Shrestha said this case has established a fact that kidney transplant is possible in Nepal, adding that despite a very tough task, kidney transplant for the third time on Chaudhary became successful.
Chaudhary was discharged from the hospital after undergoing the kidney transplant third time on August 25. Dr Shrestha shared that the kidney transplant for the third time is a rare case in the world.
“Now, we are able even for the complex transplant.”
A team of doctors under the leadership of Shrestha had carried out the kidney transplant on the second time in a person in 2010.
During 13 years of its establishment, the Centre has successfully transplanted kidney on 1,502 people and carried out liver transplant on 35 people.
