Kathmandu, Sept 25: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has reiterated government stand for social justice and good governance. Corruption control is a priority, she added.
PM Karki said it in her address to the nation on Thursday evening. It is her first address to the nation after she assumed office as the PM of interim government mandated to hold election to the House of Representatives (HoR) coming March 5. She urged all civil employees to ensure hassle-free and prompt public service delivery.
Hotlines were managed in all government offices, including the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to hear public complaints. Anyone having grudges to public service could reach the hotline and lodge complaints, she reminded.
The PM made it clear that the issue of constitution amendment could be addressed only through the parliament with people’s representatives. However, the government was being run as per spirit of Gen-Z struggle. She sought cooperation from all sides concerned to make government successful.
The small-scale and haphazard projects will be scrapped in a bid to secure resources for the fiscal year. A reconstruction fund was set up to collect budget for rebuilding infrastructures damaged during the protests, she shared.
The PM appealed to all civil servants not to engage in the activities that discourage colleagues in the changed context, but devote to better public service delivery.
PM Karki addressing the nation
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has been addressing the nation now. In her address, PM Karki said the government formed after the historic Gen-Z protests is committed to ensuring good-governance and prompt public service delivery.
PM Karki added that the main task of the government is to hold free and fair election on March 5. She said the government has expected complete support from the country people.
All civil employees are asked to carry out works in line with the spirit of youths. State agencies are made active to facilitate public on the run up to the upcoming festivals, she added. —
PM Karki calls on all sides to make election successful
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called on all political parties, civil society, media and stakeholders to extend support in making the upcoming election successful.
In her address to the nation on Thursday evening, PM Karki reminded government’s focus on holding the March 5 election in a free and fair atmosphere. She requested all Nepali sisters and brothers to participate in the election to the House of Representatives and elect qualified representatives, who would work in line with youths’ ambition of change. A peaceful atmosphere is essential for holding the election.
The PM also requested all Nepali sisters and brothers living in different parts of the country to stay patient and help create peaceful atmosphere.
According to her, discussion was going on with the Election Commission whether it was viable to conduct voting from abroad, considering huge number of Nepalis engaged in foreign jobs. The government is positive towards the protection of the rights of Nepali workers to hold decent jobs abroad and the issues raised by the Non-Resident Nepalis.
The PM also shared that law relating to voting was amended to ensure voting rights to the Gen-Z youths who are 18-year-old. Financial assistance was managed to the families of those who lost lives during the Gen-Z protest. Those losing lives were declared martyrs.
The injured ones were provided treatment and medicine for free of cost. She pledged to bring to book those involved in the killing of the youths and Gen-Z students.
PM Karki paid tribute to those died during the protest and wished speedy recovery to the injured persons. She expressed deep grief over the unimaginable and irreparable loss of lives and property.
