Dodhara Chandani (Kanchanpur), Oct 30: The probe commission relating to Gen Z protest has begun collecting details of damages occurred during the protest in the district.

Commission member Bishweshwor Prasad Bhandari informed that they had begun collecting details on the damages incurred in arson and vandalism carried out during the Gen Z protest on September 9.

Member Bhandari inspected the damaged houses of former minister Ramesh Lekhak, former minister in province Rajendra Singh Rawal, CPN UML leader Niru Devi Pal, and former mayor of Bhim Datta municipality, Surendra Bista. Chief District Officer Laxman Dhakal and chiefs of the security bodies in the district were together with the commission member while inspecting the damaged houses and other properties in Mahendranagar.

Even a discussion was held with those suffering loss during the Gen Z protest along with people’s representatives at local level and Chief District Officer.

Mayor of Bedkot municipality, Bhojraj Bohara, demanded a fair investigation into the damages because even the individual property, including houses, was torched and looted during the demonstration. “If anyone is involved in corruption, he/she can be brought to book in a legal manner. But setting on fire and looting one’s personal property is deplorable,” he reiterated. He claimed that he lost the property worth Rs 6.2 million because of arson and looting.

Other victims of the protest also demanded that those committing such crimes need to be taken action.

In response, commission member Bhandari informed that after the collection of details, they would analyse and furnish recommendation to the government. —
