Dodhara Chandani (Kanchanpur), Nov 5: The Sudurpaschim University has faced an encroachment to its property. As much as 300 bighas of land it has owned is encroached.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Hemraj Pant, informed that its constituent campus, Tikapur Multiple Campus, was suffering the encroachment of such a massive property. Out of 380 bighas of land, 300 bighas was usurped by others. The Tikapur Development Committee had handed over the land to the Campus for its use 20 years back.
However, it has been able to use only 80 bighas of land. The land grab is triggered by the freed kamaiyas and landless squatters. University Vice Chancellor Pant expressed worry that the land was not returned to its use despite repeated requests and prodding to the province and federal governments.
Lately, the university’s executive council demanded a formation of a high-level probe commission to retrieve the usurped land. It is said the squatters were given political protection, thereby perpetuating the land grab. —-
