President Paudel grants permission to mobilize NA in election

Kathmandu, Nov 27: President Ramchandra Paudel has nodded to Cabinet decision and Prime Minister’s recommendation to mobilize Nepali Army for the election to the House of Representatives scheduled for coming March 5.

President Paudel endorsed the government’s decision of mobilizing NA in the HoR election in order to strengthen election security, reads a press release issued on Thursday by Spokesperson at the Office of the President, Pradeep Kumar Koirala.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki had recommended to the President for it as per Cabinet decision held on November 24, the statement added. 

Mahara released on Rs 2 million bail

Kathmandu, Nov 27: The High Court Patan has ordered the release of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, accused of gold smuggling through vep, on a bail amount of Rs 2 million.

A division bench of judges—Arjun Prasad Koirala and Tejendra Prasad Sharma Sapkota—issued such order on Thursday. The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested Mahara in the second week of October.

The Kathmandu District Court’s decision to remand Mahara to custody failed to align with legal requirements, reads the order.

22-       PM Karki discusses with UML leaders on election bid

Kathmandu, Nov 27: In a bid to create a political atmosphere for the March 5 election to the House of Representatives (HoR), the government held a discussion with CPN UML.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki talked to the UML leaders at her official residence, Baluwatar on Thursday.

The discussion was attended by PM Karki and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, from government side while General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali and central member Mahesh Bartaula were from the UML.

The meeting zeroed in on the issues surrounding the upcoming HoR election, according to Prime Minister’s secretariat.

24-       Leftist polarization for nation building: Coordinator Dahal

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said leftist polarization would be devoted to nation building and independence.

In his address to a unity programme where Nepali Communist Party and Janata Samajbadi Party, Janajagaran Party Nepal, and splinters of different communist parties came together, Coordinator Dahal viewed the leftist forces and communist unity were for the protection of nation’s sovereignty and dignity in view of the need for strengthening nationality.

According to him, the party will also establish collaboration with democratic forces for the national integrity and independence. He also sought cooperation to this bid. “Only communist can resolve the problems facing the country now,” Dahal asserted, reminding the leaders and cadres to exchange views and make synthesis for enforcement of neo-socialism.

On the occasion, Joint Coordinator of NCP, Madhav Kumar Nepal, said the leftist polarization would be forwarded by unifying other parties that believe in scientific socialism based on Nepali characteristics. Such assemblies would be held across the country that would create a unity wave and atmosphere for election.

Leader of a group of the Janata Samajbadi Party favouring unification, Rajendra Shrestha, said he joined the Nepali Communist Party because he liked its political programmes, which he argued, would help in spurring national prosperity.

25-       PM Karki, Chair Thakur discuss election

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Chairperson of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, Mahantha Thakur, held a meeting on Thursday.

During the meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Karki urged Chairperson Thakur to play a role in creating environment for election to the House of Representatives scheduled for coming March 5. 

On the occasion, Chairperson Thakur shared that they were ready for election and discussing on the issues of possible alliance with various political parties. “We are clear and we will take part in the election. Election is only a measure a political outlet,” he opined.

He also urged the government to speed up important projects that could play significant role in development of Tarai/Madhes.

26-       Three dignitaries feted

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Three dignitaries have been felicitated at a programme organized in the federal capital on Thursday.

Poet Dr Nabaraj Lamsal, actor Deepak Raj Giri and banker Manoj Gyawali were feted at the programme organized by the Bridge Water Education Foundation in Nepal Academy. They were honoured in recognition of their contribution to the respective sectors- literature, film and banking.

Former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr Jagdish Chandra Pokhrel, offered shawls to the dignitaries and observed that the honour to the special personalities would give impetus to their energy and works.

Foundation’s Chairman Deepak Pande said the honoured personalities were inspirational figures. “The Foundation is proud to have got the opportunity to felicitate such persons,” he added.

Principal at the Foundation, Krishna Paudel, shared that it had been a culture of Bridge Water to honour the persons who have played significant roles in various fields, thereby advancing society and country.

27-       Nepal defeats Hong Kong by 119 runs

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Nepal has defeated Hong Kong by 119 runs in the ongoing ACC U19 Premier Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

This is the second victory of Nepal in the ongoing Premier Cup. Chasing the 271-run victory target posted by Nepal, Hong Kong was limited to 151 runs in 40.5 overs.

For Hong Kong, Captain Shiv Mathur made the highest 30 runs. Towards bowling, Nepal’s Aprajit Poudel took four wickets while Captain Ashok Dhami three wickets.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss in Ajman Ground, Nepal made 270 runs in 50 overs at the loss of seven wickets.

Captain Ashok Dhami collected the highest 73 runs while Darsha Sonar 45 runs (not out), Dilsad Ali 36 runs.  Hong Kong’s Abhimanyu Ganesan and Deniel Mapp took two wickets each. Captain Dhami became the ‘player of the match’ today.

Earlier, Nepal had defeated Saudi Arabia by eight wickets in its first match. Out of 14 teams—winner, first-runner up and second-runner up would be selected for the Asia Cup.

28-       NPL Cricket 2025: Janakpur Bolts faces three defeats in row

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Janakpur Bolts has faced three defeats in a row in the ongoing second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) in Kathmandu. With its loss to Pokhara Avengers by 25 runs today, Janakpur Bolts met the failure for three times in the ongoing cricket tournament.

Pokhara Avengers, which chose batting first, made 155 runs in 20 overs at a loss of 6 wickets in the match played at TU International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur on Thursday.

Pokhara Avengers limited Janakpur Bolts to 130 runs. While chasing the 156-run victory target, Janakpur was able to secure only 130 runs- at a loss of nine wickets.

For Janakpur Bolts, Wayne Parnell played half century plus, earning four sixes and two fours in 38 balls. Similarly, Sanjay Krishnamurthi made 25 runs and Maaz Sadaqat 20 runs. In the bowling, Bipin Khatri took four wickets, Sumit Verma two wickets and Kushal Bhurtel and Jimmi Nisam one wicket each.
    
Earlier, Sumit Verma played half century plus for Pokhara. In 29 balls, he made 50 runs, including four sixes and two fours. Dinesh Kharel secured 38 runs, while Tritraj Das 29, and Adam Rosington 24.

For the bowling, Sanjay Krishnamurthi took three wickets and Captain Anil Sah and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi one wicket each.

Janakpur Bolts was earlier defeated by Kathmandu Gorkhas with five wickets and by Biratnagar Kings with nine wickets. In the Friday match under NPL, Chitwan Rhinos and Kathmandu Gorkhas are in the fray at 11:45 am, while Karnali Yaks and Biratnagar Kings in the second match at 4:00pm.

29-       NPL: Pokhara Avengers post target of 156 runs for Janakpur Bolts

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Janakpur Bolts have received a target of 156 runs for the victory from Pokhara Avengers in today’s second match in the ongoing Second Edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Cricket Tournament.

Batting first after winning the toss, the team Pokhara Avengers made 155 runs in 20 overs with the loss of six wickets.

Sumit Burma of Pokhara made 50 runs while Dinesh Kharel made 38 and Tritaraj Das contributed 29 runs for the team.  For Janakpur, Sanjay Krishnamurti took three wickets and Captain Anil Sah and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi took one each.

Currently, Janakpur is batting against Pokhara Avengers. Earlier today, the previous runners-up Sudurpaschim Royals defeated Lumbini Lions with seven wickets. Sudurpaschim secured their fourth consecutive win by defeating Lumbini Lions by seven wickets. Chasing a target of 144 runs set by Lumbini, Sudurpaschim achieved it in 18.2 overs with the loss of three wickets.

30-       Finance Minister sees need for simplification in tax system, policy coordination

Rupandehi, Nov 27: Finance Minister Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has said that structural reform of the tax system, growth in capital expenditure and coordination among economic policies were needed for the nation’s economic development.

Minister Khanal said that the country’s economy at present has more issues on implementation part rather than policy stability.  

At an interaction programme organized Thursday by Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Finance Minister said that we have to focus on capital expenditure and implementation of the projects adding that the major challenge of Nepal’s economy was the poor spending capacity.

The poor capital spending has created obstruction to development works, he added.   Khanal opined that simplification of process at every level was inevitable for effective implementation of policy and planning.

Likewise, the Finance Minister stressed that transparency and accountability should be maintained in public spending and project implementation. Finance Minister Khanal admitted that tax system in Nepal was complicated and full of hassles to lure investment. For more investment to welcome, the tax system should be made simplified, transparent and predictable, Minister Khanal mentioned.

He was of the view that taxpayers and tax administration should develop confidence, and a fully digitalized system should be made for taxpaying.   Similarly, he termed the private sector as an engine of economic development and viewed for allowing them to work freely.

On the occasion, Khanal pointed out the need of immense potential for the export of stones and pebbles in a way without damaging the environmental balance. During the event, Minister Khanal shared that he was making efforts to fully run the Gautam Buddha International Airport adding that the business community in the region has spend billions of rupees after the construction of the airport.

Prior to this, the business leaders Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry drew attention of the Finance Minister to run the airport in a full capacity. Chairman of Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce and Industry Netra Prasad Acharya, President of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lumbini Province Krishna Prasad Sharma and others shared their views at the event.

31-       PM Karki urges political parties to join polls

Kathmandu, Nov 27: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged the political parties to take part in the elections to ensure their participation in the process of addressing their political agendas themselves. 

The PM made this statement during a meeting with the President of Sarbavauma Nagarik Party Ganesh Kumar Mandal on Thursday. On the occasion, PM Karki urged the political parties to join the polls adding that support of all sides was needed in nation building.

Though this government has several expectations from different sides, the government was moving ahead for good governance and elections as per the aspiration of the Gen-Z movement, PM Karki added.

Similarly, PM Karki held a meeting with the CPN (UML) leaders at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar today. During the meeting, the UML leaders shared their views on a writ petition lodged by the party at the Supreme Court against the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and the uncertain polls environment.

UML general secretary Shankar Pokhrel, deputy general secretary Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and other leaders also called for a trustworthy environment for free and fair elections.

UML leader Mahesh Bartaula said that the PM was reminded of different incidents taking place in the country that have not created confidence for polls. On the occasion, PM Karki urged the UML leaders not to habour doubts on credibility of polls adding that the main spirit of the Gen-Z protest was taking fresh people’s mandate thereby it was all’s responsibility to focus on polls, the PM’s Secretariat stated.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel was also present at the meeting.

32-       State-run media aligned with SSF

Kathmandu, Nov 27: The State-run media have been aligned with social security fund (SSF).

The media houses running under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology were brought under SSF on the occasion of the 8th Social Security Day on Thursday. A signing ceremony was held at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Minister in the presence of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and Minister for Communication, Jagdish Kharel.

Executive Director at SSF, Kaviraj Adhikari, and senior officials from State-run media signed the document, formally tying up the offices to SSF. The media were- , Gorkhapatra Corporation, Public Broadcasting Service Nepal, Press Council Nepal, and Minimum Wage Fixing Committee.

On the occasion, Minister Kharel said although there was the law to benefit employees with SSF, the State media were yet to be aligned with it. Talking to media persons following the signing ceremony, he informed that government would gradually incorporate offices under various ministries with this scheme.

With this initiation, the journalists and employees working on contract basis would be directly benefitted.

All private and community media registered in Nepal would be encouraged to adopt SSF scheme gradually, according to Minister Kharel. The senior officials from the state-run media have vowed to enforce the letter of agreement they exchanged with SSF. They would now formulate necessary work plan and enforce accordingly.

SSF is a broader welfare scheme the government had introduced for the rights and safety of employees, including treatment cost. SSF has recorded the deposit (contribution) of Rs 95.69 billion so far. As many as 253,143 workers have got benefit with Rs 17.72 billion.

33-       ‘Absence of social security fuels public dissatisfaction’

Kathmandu, Nov 27: General Secretary of the CPN (UML), Shankar Pokhrel, has expressed the view that absence of social security has increased dissatisfaction in the society.

At a programme on ‘Contribution-based social security scheme: Current situation and way ahead’ organised by General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT) here Thursday, he mentioned that social security scheme would be a medium to end anarchy.

Stating that the CPN (UML) had forwarded social security scheme by internalizing the public welfare concept, he mentioned that senior citizens security programme was introduced for the first time during the premiership of Man Mohan Adhikari and contribution-based social security scheme in recent period during premiership of KP Sharma Oli.

The event was held on the occasion of the Eighth Social Security Day on Thursday. The UML General-Secretary, however, argued that the social security scheme was yet to incorporate the workers, especially from informal sector.

Similarly, Deputy General-Secretary of the UML, Bishnu Rimal, opined that financial status of many workers would be improved if the informal sector could be aligned with social security fund.

GEFONT Chairperson Binod Shrestha said most of the problems facing workers would be resolved if the social security scheme would be effectively implemented in every sector.
