Extremely heavy rainfall recorded in Parsa’s Thori

Kathmandu, May 30: The widespread rainfall over the past two days has brought a significant drop in temperatures across the country, as weather conditions mostly remained cloudy throughout the country.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Thori in Parsa district recorded 191.2 millimeters (mm) of rainfall in the last 24 hours, approaching the threshold for extremely heavy rainfall. Several areas in Makwanpur district, including Bhorleni, Gadhi and Rajaiya also experienced heavy rainfall, receiving more than 50 mm of precipitation.

Likewise, Banke district recorded 48 mm of rainfall, close to the heavy rainfall category. Kanchanpur, Doti, Nawalparasi Purba, and Rupandehi districts also witnessed rainfall in the past 24 hours, said the DHM.

Meteorologist Saroj Pudasaini mentioned that cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the Tarai belt until coming Tuesday, helping to reduce the intense heat experienced in recent weeks. He forecasted that some areas could continue to receive heavy rainfall during this period.

As the country is currently in the pre-monsoon period, Pudasaini urged the public to remain cautious, warning that thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds are likely to accompany the rain.

The Department records show that temperatures across the country remained below 36 degree Celsius on Saturday, with the highest temperature recorded in Dhangadi at 35.8 degree Celsius.

Similarly, other major locations recorded maximum temperatures of 34.4 degree Celsius at Chandragadhi Airport, 33.0 degree Celsius in Janakpur and 33.7 degree Celsius in Dharan. Biratnagar recorded 33.2 degree Celsius while Bhairahawa reported 34.0 degree Celsius in Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj 33.9 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Kathmandu recorded a maximum temperature of 25.3 degree Celsius, marking a significant drop compared to earlier this year when the federal capital city reached 30 degree Celsius.

Several districts, including Nepalgunj, had previously experienced temperatures exceeding 41 degree Celsius during recent heat wave conditions. —.
