Lumbini University approves budget, policies and programmes

Kathmandu, July 10: The Lumbini Buddhist University has approved budget, policies and programmes for the upcoming fiscal year, 2083/84. The budget of Rs 498.8 million was endorsed by the University.

A meeting held under the chairmanship of Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Pro-Chancellor of the University, Sashmit Pokharel, at Singha Durbar on Friday, underscored the need for advancing educational programmes that focus on Buddhist education, philosophy and studies as per its main objective.

Minister Pokharel directed the University to adopt necessary strategy so that it would be developed as centre for excellence for Buddhist studies at the national and international levels.

Vice-Chancellor Dr Manik Ratna Shakya informed that the university was currently catering education to 2,620 students and 54 educational programmes were being run by the University. It has eight affiliated colleges, while eight other were being run in collaboration. The number of international students studying at the University stands at 202.

Assistant Director at the University, Churamani Pokharel, said international cooperation was expanded with additional memorandums of understanding with the foreign universities and institutions- from China, Japan, India and Korea.

It was also shared during the meeting that the University had launched various programmes for economic and administrative reforms and increased internal income. The meeting was attended by the University Senate members, office bearers and representatives of concerned bodies. —-
