Kathmandu – Three broadcasters were honoured amidst the silver jubilee ceremony of the Tamang Broadcasting Day on Sunday. The Tamang Journalists’ Association honoured the broadcast media recognizing their contributions to the preservation of Tamang language and dissemination of the information in Tamang language.

The broadcasters honoured on the occasion were Radio Nepal, Radio Sagarmatha and Metro FM. It may be noted that the state-owned broadcaster Radio Nepal has been transmitting news in Tamang script since 1 Bhadra 2051 BS. Since then, the Tamang Journalists Association has been celebrating Bhadra 1 as the Tamang Broadcasting Day.

At the programme, former secretary of Nepal government, Dhan Bahadur Tamang stressed the need that the State should earmark budget for the development of languages. Also speaking on the occasion, general-secretary of Nepal Tamang Ghedung Babu Ghising lauded the contributions of Metro FM to the development, expansion and preservation of Tamang language by producing many Tamang journalists and flowing relevant contents.

He also called for the government to air Tamang bulletin from central transmission of Radio Nepal which is still being limited to regional broadcasting. Radio Nepal’s executive director Suresh Kumar Karki pledged to gradually expand the news bulletin of Tamang language and ‘Shyalgar’ programme to provincial (state) structures.
