Monsoon activities to accelerate until Thursday, caution to be observed

Kathmandu, Sept 17: The incessant rainfall that started last night will continue till Thursday morning since the western belt of monsoon trough is based in the surrounding of the average location.

Issuing a press statement today evening, the Meteorological Forecasting Division stated that Province No 1, 2, 3, 5 and some places in Gandaki Province witnessed heavy rainfall since Monday night.

Monsoon will be more active in Gandaki Province from today while medium to heavy rainfall is predicted for Province No 2, 3 and 5.

Landslide is expected in some mountainous areas of these provinces while the water level in the rivers as Narayani is likely to rise. Flash floods have been predicted in the small streams in Tarai.

The Division has also cautioned to maintain high alert as water level in Koshi River, Bagmati River, Arun River, rivers in Chitwan, Rupandehi, Dang among others districts would rise alarmingly today and Wednesday.

People residing on the settlements near banks of such Rivers and streams are requested to observe precaution and take preparedness and response if need be.

Air and transport services might also get affected during such weather condition.

Meteorologist Samir Shrestha shared that rainfall is expected on Wednesday night throughout the country due to the wind with moisture-laden vapour coming from the Bay of Bengal and the monsoon trough formed in northern western side of Madhya Pradesh and southern side of the Uttar Pradesh in India.

Kathmandu witnessed 25.5 millimeter of rainfall while Pokhara experienced 79.5 , Simara 10.7, Dipayal 24.2, Dhangadi 19.6 and Jomson 11.0 and Janakpur at 9.8 millimeters today.

Similarly, Dharan recorded the highest rainfall at 83.4 millimeter while Dang the lowest at 0.3 milimeter.
