Constitution institutionalizes federal democratic republic: Prez Bhandari

Kathmandu, Sept 20: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the constitution promulgated by the Constituent Assembly has institutionalized the federal democratic republic.

At a programme organised at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas, on the occasion of the Constitution Day on Friday, President Bhandari said that the constitution had adopted major basis of democracy and progressive society like human rights, rule of law, inclusiveness, independent judiciary, free press, separation of power, checks and balance and social justice.

Recalling that the constitution of Nepal was promulgated as the result of people’s continuous struggle and movements, she extended best wishes to all on this occasion.

The President said, “I am feeling proud as all Nepali people are celebrating this day as the national festival.”

Stating that Nepal had made huge achievement in the sector of women’s empowerment, their representation at decision making level, President Bhandari said it was clear on sharing of power among the local, State and federal governments.

The Head of the State was hopeful that Nepal’s natural resources and cooperation from the neighbouring countries and international development partners would contribute to our journey towards development.

Present in the programme were Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana, Chairperson of the National Assembly, ministers, representatives from the business community, artistes and heads of the foreign diplomatic missions in Nepal.
