NCP recommends names for Chief of State position

Published Date : November 4, 2019

Kathmandu, Nov 4 : Today’s meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Secretariat has recommended names of candidates for the vacant post of Chief of State in all seven states.

The meeting held at Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar, Kathmandu has recommended Amik Sherchan (Chitwan), Somnath Adhikari Pyasi (Kaski), Tilak Pariyar (Banke), Sharmila Tripathi (Kathmandu), Dharmanath Yadav (Siraha), Bishnu Prasai (Jhapa) and Govinda Kalauni (Dadheldhura) for the State Chief posts.

NCP General-Secretary Bisnu Prasad Poudel shared that the meeting of Council of Ministers would decide on who would be appointed for which states.

The recommendation was made in wake of those posts lying vacant as per the constitutional provisions. The government would make decisions on the candidates to take office as Chief of State in line with the constitution.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, after the recommendations of the Council of Ministers, had relieved the province chiefs of all seven provinces from their post on Sunday as per the Article 165 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The Article 165 (1) (b) stipulates that the post of State Chief falls vacant  when the term of Chief of State expires or when he/she is removed from office by the President prior to the expiration of the term.

The NCP had expressed its dissatisfaction over the appointment of these removed Chiefs of States by the erstwhile government which had taken place following the 2017’s election.
