NPL Cricket 2025: Number of half century reaches 26

            Kathmandu, Dec 2: Number of half centuries has reached 26 in the Nepal Premier League.

            With Adam Rossington of the Pokhara Avengers completing 50 runs today, number of half centuries has reached 26 in the tournament.

            He has become 21st player to complete half century. It is his second half century in the ongoing NPL tournament.

            Earlier, Ravi Bopara of Chitwan Rhinos had hit three half centuries while Kushal Bhurtel and Adam Rossington of Pokhara Avengers, and Priyank Panchal of Karnali Yaks made two half centuries in the tournament.

            Likewise, Binod Bhandari, Josh Brown, Harmit Singh, and Ishan Pandey of Sudurpaschim Royals; Lokesh Bam, Martin Guptil, and Basir Ahamad of Biratnagar Kings; and Sumit Burma and Jimmy Neesham of Pokhara; David Malan and Arjun Saud of Chitwan; John Simpson of Kathmandu Gorkhas, Anil Shah, Wayne Parnell, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Maj Sadakat and Aasif Sheikh of Janakpur Bolts made half century each.

            Mark Watt of Karnali is the only cricketer to make a century in the ongoing tournament.

Pokhara posts 202-run target for Karnali with Adam’s century

            Pokhara Avengers has set a 202-run target for Karnali Yaks in the second edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL) with Adam Rossington’s century.

            Put to bat first after losing the toss at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Pokhara gathered a mammoth first inning total of 201 runs for the loss of two wickets in the limited 20 overs.

            This is the second high score in the ongoing season. Earlier, Biratnagar Kings had scored 220 runs against Pokhara.

            Adam contributed 108 runs to Pokhara to present the big target for Karnali. Likewise, Jason Roy made 46 runs while Dhanjaya Lakshan contributed 23 and captain Kushal Bhurtel 18 runs.

            Nandan Yadav and Mark Watt of Karnali took one wicket each. The march is crucial for both the team to reach to the ‘play-off’.

            It will be easier for Pokhara – which has won only one in four matches – to set the play-off journey if it emerges winner in the match.

            This march is in the ‘do or die’ stage for Karnali. In the first march earlier today, Janakpur had beaten Chitwan by six wickets.


NPL: Chitwan Rhinos batting first after winning toss

            Janakpur Bolts and Chitwan Rhinos are competing in today’s first match under the Second Edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL) currently underway at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, in the federal capital.

            Chitwan has opted to bat first after winning the toss. Janakpur, at the bottom of the points table after losing four consecutive matches, wants to stay in the ‘playoff’ race by winning this game.

            If defeated, Janakpur will be eliminated. Chitwan, having won two out of four games, wants to strengthen their playoff chances by winning this game.

            Pokhara Avengers and Karnali Yaks will face each other in the second match to take place today at 4:00pm.

            Nineteen matches have been completed so far since the competition started on November 17. The unbeaten Sudurpaschim Royals have become the first team to reach the playoffs with 10 points.

Chitwan posts 177-run victory target before Janakpur

            Janakpur Bolts received a victory target of 177 runs from defending champions Janakpur Bolts in today’s first match under the Second Edition of Nepal Premier League (NPL) currently underway at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.

            Batting first after winning the toss, Chitwan Rhinos gathered 176 runs in 20 overs at the loss of four wickets.

            Openers David Malan and Arjun Sawad contributed 80 runs and 52 runs, respectively. The two batters also contributed 112 runs in partnership.  

            In bowling, Anil Shah, Rupesh Singh, Maz Sadakat and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton took one wicket each.

            Janakpur Bolts, at the bottom of the points table after losing four consecutive matches, wants to stay in the ‘playoff’ race by winning this game.

            If defeated, Janakpur will be eliminated.

            Chitwan, having won two out of four games, wants to strengthen its chances of playoff by winning this game.

Defending champions Janakpur savour their first win

            The defending champions Janakpur Bolts have won the first match of today’s second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) ongoing at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur in the capital. Janakpur defeated Chitwan Rhinos by six wickets. This is their first win in this tournament.

            Janakpur, which had lost four matches in a row, added two points today. Chitwan, on the other hand, has won only two out of five matches. Janakpur Bolts achieved the victory target of 177 runs in 17.3 overs for the loss of four wickets.

            In this, Maaz Sadaqat and Anil Sah added half-centuries with superb batting. Maaz scored 63 and Anil scored 61 runs.

            On the bowling side, Kamal Singh Airee, Sahil Tanveer, and Amar Singh Rautela from Chitwan took one wicket each.

            Earlier, Chitwan won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 176 runs for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The opening pair Dawid Malan and Arjun Saud scored half-centuries. Malan contributed 80 and Arjun 52 runs. There was also a century partnership of 112 runs between these two batsmen.

            Anil Shah, Rupesh Singh, Maaz Sadaqat and Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton from Janakpur each took a wicket.

            Pokhara Avengers and Karnali Yaks will face each other in the second match this afternoon at 4:00 pm.

            Anil hits half-century

            Meanwhile, Anil Sah, the batter for Janakpur Bolts, has scored a half-century in today’s match. He is the 21st player to hit a half-century in the ongoing tournament.

            He completed a half-century against Chitwan Rhinos with three sixes and two fours in 28 balls. So far, 25 half-centuries have been scored in the second edition of the NPL. —
