Kathmandu, May 11: The ‘National Cleanliness Week’ is being launched in government offices from today to make public service delivery clean and environment-friendly.
The government has started the cleanliness week in all offices at the federal, provincial and local levels from today. The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has issued a special guideline, directing all bodies from federal ministries to local levels to actively participate in this campaign. The formal launch of this national campaign is being held at Bir Hospital this morning.
The campaign aims to implement cleanliness standards in government bodies in a way that achieves maximum returns at low cost, as stated in the ‘Guidelines for the Operation of Cleanliness Week, 2083’ issued by the government.
According to the Guidelines government offices should have at least two types of dustbins to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Old and useless items should be properly managed and open burning of waste should be completely banned. To make the campaign sustainable, each agency will have to designate a cleanliness focal point.
The guidelines have made provision for preparing a weekly cleanliness schedule and conducting a monthly self-assessment. The entire responsibility for the implementation and monitoring of this campaign has been entrusted to the heads of the concerned agencies, who will have to maintain regular records of it.––
