Former KU VC Dr Sharma passes away

Kathmandu, Sept 24: Educationist and founding Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University, Prof Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86.

Dr Sharma died while undergoing treatment at HAMS Hospital in Dhumbarahi, Kathmandu. Family sources stated that his funeral rites would be performed on Thursday.

Born in Sindhuli in Shrawan 1997 BS, Dr Sharma held a PhD in Chemistry. Following the establishment of Kathmandu University, Dr Sharma, as the founding Vice-Chancellor, played a leadership role in building the university’s academic and institutional foundations.

Under his leadership, the university pioneered new practices in higher education by prioritizing technical and vocational learning. A staunch advocate for prioritizing educational quality, research, and the expansion of vocational education, Dr Sharma dedicated a long period of his life to the higher education sector in Nepal. —
