Published Date : October 9, 2026

Humla, Oct 9: The closure of Nepal’s Hilsa border point with China has resulted in sheer inconvenience and suffering to the people at border. The locals and even the security persons here have been facing utmost difficulty to have access to food, drinking water and health services after heavy snowfall blocked the two-country border crossing since September 25.

The border point was closed due to huge pile of snow. Even the access road to border was badly affected by the blizzard. With the Dashain festival approaching near, even the people stranded in Hilsa due to blockage of road and border point are worrying much.

Shortage of daily essentials has hit hard the people, as there is no cross-border mobility and transport. Even the green vegetables are not found in the market, let alone the sale of fish and meat.

Inspector of Police at Hilsa border security post, Kedar Sapkota, shared the plight that they were bound to manage with lentil soup. In addition to the food supply, the people are facing problems to secure health treatment.

As a staff of the Armed Police Forces (APF) was a trained as a community medicine assistant (CMA), he has been a man of rescue for the ailing ones, providing medicine like Cetamol. The border closure impacted the daily mobility of the locals.

However, as the border towards China was open on Thursday, 144 Nepali citizens had entered Nepal facing adversity. The removal of huge pile of snow began just on Wednesday.

A mini excavator is used to clear the snow block. However, it is too small to clean the access road to border crossing on time. The slow progress on removal of road obstruction is a cause for concern to the locals.

As a result, more than 100 people left Hilsa for various parts of the district and outside. There are total 63 government employees including 35 Armed Police Force and 20 Nepal police persons and some local people at Hilsa. —
