Ruling parties meeting at Baluwatar

Kathmandu, June 24: The ruling parties are holding a meeting at the call of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the latter’s residence, Baluwatar, now.

The meeting is attended by PM and UML Chairman Oli, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML’s Senior Vice Chairman Ishwor Pokharel, NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Chairman of the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Nepal, Mahantha Thakur, Chairwoman of the Nagarik Unmukti Party, Ranjit Shrestha, Chairman of the Janamat Party, Dr CK Raut, and Chairman of Janata Samajbadi Party, Ashok Kumar Rai, among others.

It is learnt that meeting is being held in the wake of the House of Representatives meeting scheduled to pass the Appropriation Bill, 2082. Even the issues surfacing before national politics and government operation would be dwelt on in the meeting, it is said.

HoR meeting scheduled to pass Appropriation Bill today

Kathmandu, June 24: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled to pass the Appropriation Bill, 2082 today.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel is presenting a proposal, considering the passage of the Appropriation Bill in the HoR meeting to begin at 11:00am.

The federal parliament secretariat informed that the Finance Bill, 2082; and the Debt Recovery Bill, 2082 would also be presented in the meeting.

Before this, the related ministers are scheduled to furnish responses to the issues raised on budget allocations under the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, the Home Ministry, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Finance Ministry, the Ministry of Urban Development, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the National Planning Commission, the President’s Office, and the Vice President’s Office, among others.

Similarly, the lawmakers in line to present proposals for budget cuts are Amaresh Kumar Singh, Prabhu Saha, Durga Rai, Prem Suwal, Aman Lal Modi, Janardan Sharma, Bimala Subedi, Rekha Sharma, Chitra Bahadur KC, Shakti Bahadur KC, Hitraj Pande, Ram Kumar Rai, Devendra Paudel, Madhav Sapkota, Ranendra Barali, Gyanu Basnet, Urmila Majhi, Ammar Bahadur Thapa, Chhiring Lhamu Lama, Narayani Sharma, Ganga Karki and Lekhnath Dahal.

Weather Forecast: Heavy rainfall in few places of Koshi and Bagmati Provinces

Kathmandu, June 24: The monsoon effect is active across the country at present. It will be generally cloudy in the hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali Provinces, while remaining places will be partly cloudy later this afternoon.

The weather bulletin issued by the Weather Forecasting Division stated few places of Koshi and Bagmati Provinces are predicted to have heavy rainfall today. Light to moderate rainfall is forecast in other provinces.

Coming night, few places of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpachim Provinces will have excessive rainfall. Some places of other provinces are likely to have light to moderate rainfall coupled with thunder and lightning, according to the weather service.

Pilgrim heading to Kailash Mansarovar dies

Rasuwa, June 24: A foreign national on a way to the Kailash Mansarovar has died.

The dead one is Dalip Singh, 55, from Fiji, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Hem Bahadur Shahi.

Singh died in Chinese territory on June 21. The dead body was sent to Kathmandu by helicopter from Keyrong. However, the factor behind the death has not been identified, the police added.

Manmohan Technical University to produce ayurvedic medicine

Morang, June 24: The Manmohan Technical University has decided to produce ayurvedic medicines. The university located at Budhiganga rural municipality of Morang district is preparing itself for producing the medicine for the treatment of diabetes.

Vice Chancellor Dr Subashshree Pokharel conducted a press meet and shared information about it on Monday. He said the university was conducting a research on treatment process of diabetic patients with the use of medicinal herbs produced within country.

Now, the university is undertaking research on various 10 topics in the current academic session.

Diabetes treatment and bacteriophage are given top priorities among ten researches. There are several other issues being studied for ayurvedic treatment.

“The university has forwarded a plan to provide study on Grade 6 to 8 skill tests after the students pass the Grade to Grade 5 skill tests,” he said, adding that there are 322 students at bachelor and master’s levels programmes in various streams under the university.

Koshi Province government had established the technical university in 2076BS. The first technical university in the province, however, has complained of inadequate budget allocation from the province government.

According to Pokharel, only Rs 140 million budget was allocated to the Manmohan Technical University although the province government was demanded to provide Rs 37o million for the coming fiscal year. It was 0.5 percent of total budget in the province, which is worrying, he shared the plight.

Open defecation free district lacks public toilet at district headquarters

Siraha, June 24: Irrespective of the announcement of open defection free district long back, Siraha has no public toilets at District headquarters itself, causing sheer inconvenience and embarrassment to the public.

There are several significant offices including District Administration Office, Land Reform and Land Revenue, District Court and District Police Office where the citizen frequent for various sorts of service. But the absence of lavatories has not only caused utmost inconvenience but utter shame.

Those returning to home after services at various government offices need the essential facility. Most afflicted with this are the women folks.

The locals complained that Siraha municipality was ignoring the demand of constructing and managing public toilets for long. It has earned much disgrace, they added. The locals further vented ire that the local level spends huge amount of money on infrastructure building every year, while the essential service to respond to nature’s call is egregiously ignored.

Member of Ward No 2 in Siraha municipality, Shambhu Sah, said, “I repeatedly demanded establishment of public toilet after I was elected people’s representatives. However, neither the mayor nor other officials paid heed to it.”

Although the local level was made aware of this pressing need since the very first stint in 2074BS, it is yet to be materialized.

Pedestrians and service seekers at government offices in the district headquarters are in urgent need of lavatory.

A local youth leader Bhogendra Saha said toilet is essential not only for cities’ cleanliness and beauty but also for human dignity. He expressed worry why the municipality was turning a deaf ear to such urgency.

Similarly, Chairman of ward no 22 in the municipality, Jibachh Narayan Jha, viewed, “It is shameful not to have a public toilet at district headquarters itself.” He, however, said the forthcoming municipal assembly meeting would be resonated with the demand of such essential facility.

The locals further argued that absence of public toilet is also the absence of good governance, inclusive development and failure if the local level to address public concern.

Mayor Dr Nawin Kumar Yadav also admitted the inconvenience caused to people for not having essential facility for defecation. However, he informed the construction of public toilet was a priority. There is a long term plan to build toilets at various public places under the urban development and cleanliness campaign.

The toilet would be managed sustainably with a close coordination among locals, people’s representatives and concerned stakeholders, he added.

Top
