Kathmandu, Dec 28: The government has enforced the ‘Program Implementation Procedures, 2082 BS’ with the objective of developing and expanding the agricultural sector, along with its commercilization.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the new procedures will support farmers, businesspersons and entrepreneurs to promote their honey and mushroom-related products at the local, national and international levels. The new procedures aim to contribute to the expansion of the international and domestic markets by disseminating information on the usefulness and benefits of honey, bee products and mushrooms.
It will contribute to the exchange of professional, scientific and latest technology and information related to beekeeping and mushroom farming. It will help establish business relations and cooperation between farmers, businessmen, service recipients, service providers and other stakeholders involved in the bee value chain and mushroom farming. Various types of honey and bee products produced in Nepal will be displayed, sold and distributed. Interaction will be held among stakeholders related to beekeeping.
Meanwhile, the National Honey Fair and Festival will be conducted jointly by the Nepal Beekeepers Federation and Nepal Beekeepers Central Cooperatives Association Limited.
Similarly, a crop development and agricultural biodiversity conservation program will be conducted. The ministry has stated that the objectives of this program are to promote the production of food grains, oilseeds, indigenous crops, seed conservation and production, agricultural biodiversity conservation and promotion, and institutional strengthening of farm centers. Proposals will be invited for the program, beneficiaries will be selected, and agreements will be signed.
Under the program, grants will be provided to farmers, farmer groups or cooperatives, community seed banks or other organizations. The goal is to produce improved seeds in off-farm locations through farm centers.
The procedures have been implemented since the month of Poush (mid-December), according to the Ministry.
