Kirtipur (Kathmandu), Jan 22: After a win in today’s match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, Bangladesh has clinched a spot in the Super Six. The match at UT Cricket Ground saw Bangladesh secure their place in the Super Six after achieving three victories in a row.
In today’s third match, Bangladesh triumphed Namibia by 80 runs to enter the Super Six. Previously, Bangladesh had also defeated the USA and Papua New Guinea. This latest victory ensured Bangladesh’s place at the top of Group ‘A’ with six points. After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, Bangladesh posted a total of 144 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Shobhana Mostari was the standout performer for Bangladesh, scoring 27 runs, while Dilera Akter contributed 25 runs. For Namibia, Saima Tuhadeleni and Silvia Sihepo took two wickets each, while Wilka Mwatile and Jurien Yairgart made one wicket apiece.
In response, Namibia was bowled out for just 64 runs in 17.5 overs. Suné Witman was the top scorer for Namibia with 19 runs, and Majerly Igorases contributed 12 runs, but other batsmen failed to make double figures.
For Bangladesh, Shorna Akter was the star with the ball, taking four wickets, while Rabeya Khan and Fahima Khatun each took three wickets.

20- NC Chief Secretary Paudel resigns
Kathmandu, Jan 22: Chief Secretary of the Nepali Congress at its central office, Krishna Prasad Paudel, has tendered resignation from the post. Also a member of the National Assembly, Chief Secretary Paudel resigned from the post on Thursday.
He stepped down following the election of new working committee of the NC from the special general convention (SGC). The new central working committee was elected unopposed under the leadership of Gagan Thapa a week back.
The new working committee is holding its meeting first in the central office, Sanepa on Friday.

21- HoR election: EC scraps Resham Chaudhary’s nomination
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The Election Commission has informed that it scrapped a nomination paper filed by Resham Chaudhary as the candidate of the House of Representatives election from constituency-1 of Kailali after conducting an investigation into the complaint lodged against him.
However, the complaints lodged against the HoR election candidates from constituency-2 of Sunsari, constituency-1 of Rautahat, and constituency-2 of Bhaktapur lacked sufficient claims. Assistant Spokesperson at the Election Commission, Kul Bahadur GC, shared this information to RSS.
Similarly, the registration of the complaint in Rautahat district was rejected on Wednesday. The investigation into the complaints had begun from 3:00pm on Wednesday, which concluded at 5:00pm on Thursday.
The Election Commission is publishing the list of the candidates under the first-past-the-post shortly.

22- Westerly wind causing cloudy weather on Friday
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The westerly wind is causing changes in weather next day, Friday. The weather will be cloudy in the country from Friday afternoon, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
However, major changes in weather will be felt in western belt of the county. The western region of Nepal is highly likely to be cloudy to moderately rainy and snowy.
Meteorologist at the Department, David Dhakal, informed that the cloud spreads from western to eastern side on Friday and Saturday. It brings light rains in few places of Sudurpaschim Province.
Some places in high hills and mountainous regions across the country are forecasted to have moderate snowfall. Dhakal further said Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to have moderate rainfall along with thunder.
Even the hailstone may be recorded in a few places. Although the weather will improve on Saturday, the lingering cloudy weather causes a decline in temperature throughout the country.
The Department has appealed to all people including the agencies providing health, tourism and air services to stay updated on weather condition and maintain alertness accordingly.

23- High alertness against Nipah virus
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The government has implemented high alertness to prevent the entry of Nipah virus, which has spread in neighbouring West Bengal of India, to Nepal. Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Prakash Budhathoki, announced that adequate measures were in place to prevent the Nipah infection from entering the country.
He informed that government had begun checking individuals arriving in Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and border points with India. “We have specifically intensified alertness at the border points in Koshi Province. Even the health checks for the people entering Nepal were ordered at other border points,” he stated.
Spokesperson Budhathoki warned that those infected with the Nipah virus could face fatal consequences if not treated immediately. He noted that the mortality rate of Nipah virus infected ones ranges from 30 to 33 percent.
This specific virus spreads through pigs, bats and infected humans.

24- ‘Build positive narrative on foreign employment’
Kathmandu, Jan 22: Irrespective of significant contribution to national economy, the foreign employment has not been recognized in a way it deserves a positive narrative.
Stakeholders have expressed worry over not building a positive narrative towards the foreign employment. At a programme organized by the National Network for Safe Migration on ‘Deconstruction of Narrative on Foreign Employment’ on Thursday, the speakers said it was time to explore positive sides of the foreign employment rather than indulging in negative narrative. In the programme attended by journalists and human rights advocates, Network Chairman Krishna Prasad Neupane said those opting for foreign employment should be regarded from a humanitarian lens.
“Opting for foreign job is not a crime. The state must utilize the skills and knowledge the returnee migrants bring into the country,” he stressed. Journalist Babita Basnet made a presentation on media perspective towards foreign employment. She argued the media has not painted positively to those going for overseas job.
Chairperson of the Paurakhi Nepal, Satra Kumari Gurung, shared discrimination she faced while she returned home from foreign employment. Even the society does not regard the foreign returnee migrant women. Considering this, the Paurakhi Nepal had launched a campaign.
It is urgent to ensure dignity and human rights to those involved in foreign employment.

25- PM inquires on installation of martyrs’ statues in parliament building
Kathmandu, Jan 22: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has received information on the progress made so far for the installation of the statues of Gen-Z Movement martyrs in the premises of parliament building.
On Thursday, PM Karki had a meeting with ministers and officials from relevant agencies in Singha Durbar to discuss the establishment of the martyrs’ statues in the premises of the under-construction parliament building.
Participants in the discussion included Finance Minister Rameshore Khanal, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Minister for Water Supply Dr. Madan Pariyar, Minister for Urban Development Kumar Ingnam, Secretary at the Federal Parliament Padma Prasad Pandey, Secretary at PM’s Office Govinda Bahadur Karki, Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay, Secretary at Ministry of Urban Development Gopal Sigdel, and Secretary at Ministry of Law Parashwar Dhungana, among others.
Secretary Sigdel provided information on the identified locations and potential designs for the statues, requesting suggestions and guidance. PM Karki instructed the revision of the master plan for the parliament building and the construction works be forwarded without delay.

26- NC CWC to meet on Friday
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The central working committee (CWC) meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) is summoned for Friday.
Issuing a press release today, Secretary of the NC Central Office, Prakash Sharma, stated that the meeting is to convene at 1:00 pm on Friday at the party central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.
The central office-bearers, central committee members and presidents of the province-level committees have been asked to attend the meeting.

27- Council asks stakeholders to avoid participation of children in polls campaigns
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The National Child Rights Council has urged stakeholders to avoid the participation of children in election campaigns.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, the Council has asked one and all to create an assured environment so that there will not be the engagement of children in the entire election campaign, including after the election period.
The Council has also appealed to all political parties and stakeholders to protect, promote and ensure child rights while urging political parties, their sister organizations and candidates not to bring children to the election publicity campaigns, rallies and victory rallies.
The Council has cautioned political parties that the Election Code of Conduct and other laws relating to elections prohibit the participation of children in election campaigns, welcome and reception, mass meetings, rallies and gatherings.

28- EC scraps Sumitra Basnet’s nomination in Kathmandu constituency no. 10
Kathmandu, Jan 22: The Election Commission has informed that it scrapped a nomination paper filed by Sumitra Basnet as the candidate of the House of Representatives (HoR) from Kathmandu constituency no. 10.
Returning Officer of Kathmandu constituency no. 10, Amrita Kumari Sharma, told the RSS that Basnet’s nomination was terminated as she was found blacklisted from the Credit Information Bureau.
Earlier, the EC had scrapped the candidacy of Resham Chaudhary as the candidate Kailali-1 after conducting an investigation into the complaint lodged against him.
Likewise, the EC has published the list of candidates under the first-past-the-post from the Office of all 77 Chief Returning Officers and 88 Returning Officers.
The candidates have been given time to withdraw their names from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday and the final name list of the candidates will be released from 1:00 to 3:00 on Friday itself.
EC’s Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC said that candidates will be given the election symbol from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday.
