More than 1,000 benefit from free cardiac health camp in Gorkha

Gorkha, June 1: More than 1,000 people in Gorkha district benefitted from a two-day free cardiac screening and health camp.

Dr Anil Bhattarai, senior cardiologist at the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center, informed that a total of 1,021 local residents received cardiovascular related services during the camp set up in the Provincial Hospital and Siranchowk rural municipality.

The camp was organized on May 30-31 in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Gorkha and in technical assistance of the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital of Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. During the camp, 762 people were examined at the camp organized at the Provincial Hospital while 259 others availed services such as cardiac consultations and the like at a separate camp held in Siranchowk rural municipality, shared Dr Bhattarai.

Service-seekers received free ECG and ECHO examinations during the camp while they were also provided with essential medicines free of cost, said Dr Bhattarai. He mentioned that during the screenings, the medical team identified several serious health conditions among participants, including rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart diseases, blocked arteries as well as other cardiovascular diseases.

Dr Bhattarai added that arrangements are being made to ensure that patients requiring further treatment receive appropriate medical care. —
