Published Date : June 16, 2026

Kanchanpur, June 16: Local levels in Kanchanpur district have banned excavation of sand, stones and pebbles from river and streams.

The local levels imposed the ban for three months- from June 15 to August 15. They made such decision in line with a ‘criteria on excavation, sales and management of stone, pebbles and sand, 2077’.

The amended rule does not allow extraction of river bed materials. Bhimdatt Municipality, Bedkot Municipality, Shuklaphanta Municipality and Krishnapur Municipality issued notices, urging all concerned sides to strictly abide by the rule.

The rule was enforced to protect natural flow of rivers/stream and prevent environmental degradation and disasters. Chief administrative officer at Bhimdatt Municipality, Mahesh Kumar Bam, informed that none would be extracting sand and pebbles from river and stream anymore.”The move is taken for environment protection and prevention of disaster,” he added. —-
