Kathmandu, June 16: Nepal and China have reiterated shared commitment to each others’ sensitivities, priorities and mutual respect, while dwelling on expansion of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal, is currently in a 4-day official visit to China at the cordial invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi.
The bilateral discussion Minister Khanal held featured the topics like infrastructure, connectivity, border management, energy trade, investment, agriculture, technology transfer, IT and digitalization, tourism, chemical fertilizer, exploration of petroleum and natural gas and people-to-people relations.
The Foreign Ministry has informed that the bilateral delegations focused on entire gamut of Nepal-China relations defined by friendship, harmony and cooperation. It was reiterated that Nepal is committed to One China Principle and Nepal does not allow its territory to be used against China.
Similarly, Chinese side said it was committed to Nepal’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. Chinese government would have continuous support to Nepal in the latter’s endeavours of good governance and economic growth.
The Ministry further said both sides expressed firm commitment to speed up the projects agreed previously. A press statement issued by Nepali Embassy in China informed that both countries would cooperate on issues of common interests in multilateral and regional platforms.
Minister Khanal also attended a dinner organized in his honour. He held a meeting with the chief of International Department of Central Committee of Chinese Communist Party, where they discussed strengthening of Nepal-China ties.
The Minister also visited the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research under Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing on Monday. He garnered information on the Institute’s activities and efforts underway to build cooperation with Nepali institutes under the Tribhuvan University.
On the occasion, the Foreign Minister underscored the need of deepening bilateral cooperation in the front of science and technology as well. He is scheduled to return to home on Wednesday.
